We have an exciting opportunity available for a Chief Officer to lead a well-established youth organisation in its mission to assist disadvantaged young people to transition confidently into adulthood based in Leamington Spa. You will join the team on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of Up to £39,110 per annum, depending on experience.

Young People First is committed to no young person being limited by disadvantage and works to help vulnerable young people to overcome their problems and succeed in life. The charity is recognised and respected as a specialist, early intervention service which reaches and supports some of Warwickshire’s most vulnerable young people.

As the Chief Officer, you will lead on income generation and financial management and work closely with the Board of Trustees. You will report on the charity’s progress ensuring that objectives are met, and the charity remains compliant.

Key responsibilities of the Chief Officer:

  • Leading on setting strategic direction, including the preparation of an annual business plan, fundraising strategy, risk register, and the annual budget for the Board of Trustees
  • Providing strategic leadership of the team and leading staff meetings including setting relevant agendas and ensuring that tasks are completed
  • Directly managing two youth work managers and the finance officer
  • Leading and implementing the charity’s fundraising strategy generating income from Trusts and Foundations, corporate and individual donations
  • Researching, identifying, and successfully managing a pipeline of new and existing donor prospects
  • Producing compelling proposals, funding applications, reports which meet grant criteria
  • Building strong relationships with a range of potential funders and overseeing the writing of major bids
  • Producing an annual budget aligned with the business plan
  • Ensuring the sound financial management of the charity within the annual budget
  • Ensuring the effective implementation of policies including health and safety, GDPR, Equality, and Diversity policy
  • Acting as an ambassador for the charity, networking widely to build new and existing strategic relationships such as partner organisations, trusts and foundations, and prospective donors

Skills and experience of the ideal Chief Officer:

  • A high standard of written and spoken English
  • At least three years’ leadership experience within a charitable organisation
  • A proven track record in securing five and six-figure grant funding
  • Excellent budget development skills with experience of managing annual budgets in excess of £250,000
  • The ability to design, implement and monitor progress against strategic objectives
  • The ability to confidently communicate and connect with different audiences using various forms of media and public speaking
