Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking Section Leader Radiation Protection to lead the Radiation protection staff in planning, overseeing, and implementing the Radioactive material license issued by NRC, California and Colorado, and operational radiation protection program on projects in the field.  Trains and qualifies Radiological Control Technicians, Radiation Workers, and Radioactive Materials Users.  Responsible for the development and maintenance of the Radiation Protection Programs and their various subordinate program elements that support the radioactive materials licenses and permits held by the Radiological Services & Engineering group.

Assigns and supervises personnel assigned to the Radiation Protection Section.  Provides operational support and oversight to field personnel who are implementing the radiation protection program.  Oversees the compilation, analysis, review, and reporting of data collected in support of the radiation protection program.  Effectively communicate with customer and regulatory personnel in the field and in meetings.  This is a full-time position based at the Grand Junction, CO Radiological Services & Engineering office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Project Delivery Section staff and Environmental Engineering Section staff to ensure that project radiation protection and control objectives are clearly understood and that implementation of the Radiation Protection Program is both effective and compliant
  • Serves as the License Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for each of the radioactive materials licenses that the RS&E organization possesses
  • Write work plans to direct and manage the implementation of the Radiation Protection Program on projects where radiation protection is mandated or warranted
  • Oversees the program to train and qualify personnel who implement the Radiation Protection Program
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures (and related controlled documents)
  • May supervise one or more personnel trained as radiological control technicians
  • Manage, analyze, review, and interpret data and information collected in support of the Radiation Protection Program
  • Maintain the instrumentation and equipment used to collect radiological data in support of the Radiation Protection Program & manage data and prepare analyses & reports
  • Maintain records of program activities and project field activities in order to demonstrate compliance with the Radiation Protection Program, conditions and requirements of Woods radioactive materials licenses, and associated laws and regulations governing these
  • Effectively communicate with clients, regulators, field technicians, and project management personnel.
  • Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment
  • Will travel to US project sites for field support approximately 25-50% overnight travel

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years having implemented a radiation protection program as a senior supervisor for environmental field work, or other directly relevant experience
  • AS or BS degree desired, or equivalent in experience and education
  • NPPRT registration is preferred
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the state and federal regulations underpinning the issuance and implementation of radioactive materials licenses
  • Experience on sites undergoing remediation due to the presence of radioactive materials
  • Proficiency in office software to include Windows OS, and MS Office, especially MS Excel, MS Project, and MS Word
  • Understanding of applicable scientific methods and technical methodologies
  • Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders
  • Ability to write and prepare plans, procedures, training courses, reports, and forms
  • Ability to follow instructions with attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours, in challenging weather conditions
  • Flexibility to work in the field on projects - Travel to project sites estimated to be 25-50% of the time
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy
